Always Striving for Excellence

Although the name Ekara Beagles is only newly registered, my passion for Beagles lies much deeper. My parents always used to own Beagles, so a deep-rooted love for the breed was formed when I was very young.

In 2019, I was very lucky to get the opportunity to import my very first two Beagles. Ranger, my beautiful Australian boy, was still a puppy when he arrived. This dog has crept deeper into my heart than any other dog ever before. Ranger has a bubbly personality and loves the show ring. I look forward to campaigning him more as soon as the current situation improves.

Mia, my lovely Italian girl, also holds a very soft spot in my heart. I was granted the opportunity to own Mia (already an International Champion) later in 2019, and she arrived in South Africa pregnant from a stunning Polish boy. From this litter - my first Ekara litter - I kept a stunning little girl named Karma. We hope that Karma will follow in her mum's footsteps. We co-own a boy from this litter, Hustle, and I am just as excited to see him in the show ring!

Mia will hopefully be the mother of our only litter for 2020, and if all goes according to plan, this litter will be sired by an American Import.

My great friend and mentor, Candice Theron, breeder of Voxcreek Beagles, deserves more than just a word of thanks for all the advice and support  - words cannot describe how thankful I am. Candice is also the breeder of my youngest Beagle, Nicky, who is sired by our very own special boy Ranger.

I would also like to thank every other breeder and exhibitor, locally and internationally, who has helped with advice and support. I am not going to name them all, the list would be endless, but know that I am really thankful for all the support!

Here at Ekara I am committed to the Beagle as breed, always striving for excellence.

As a Preservation Breeder, my commitment includes:

•  Improving the breed. I only breed when I feel that a combination of certain dogs could result in progeny that will leave a legacy. Thus I pay attention to showing all my breeding prospects in order to measure them against the breed standard and choose the most suitable partner for every dog/ bitch.

•  Genetic Health. At Ekara the genetic soundness of my breeding prospects is very important. For that reason all my dogs are health tested, and the results are published on my website. Furthermore, I keep the genetic health of my breeding prospects in mind when choosing their partners.

•  Puppies that are sound and healthy. Not only do we breed to better the breed, but I also pay attention to how the pups are raised. I put every effort into the little ones, socialising them as much as possible, stimulating them, and taking them for vet visits, to ensure that they are healthy and happy at the time of sale.

•  Ethical breeding and responsible breeding - quality being the key, not quantity.
