To make a successful show dog, several ingredients need to go into the mix:
~ Firstly, a puppy who fills the breeder's idea of good breed type and conformation.
~
Secondly, nurturing this precious commodity, developing personality to the full, making training fun, and adding a pinch of discipline.
~
Mix in the right handler, one who can get the best out of a dog and the dog enjoying this relationship.
If all goes to plan this mixture can produce a good show dog.
Jake is fulfilling his early promise after coming through the puppy and junior ranks successfully, he finally took his place as a mature adult winning his first Best in Show at Sasolburg last year. This has been followed by three more, plus 3 Reserve Best in Show awards at championship shows.
He was joint 9th in the AnimalTalk top 100 last year and is currently standing in no 2 position. He won the title of KUSA Herding Show Dog of the year 2016.
He is bred from the world-class bloodlines of Aldonza, Cabaka and Vanderbilt.
The finished product could never have turned out so well without the expertise of his handler Leigh Beckmann and I have to thank Melanie Voges of Pure Paws South Africa for her advice and sponsorship.
