Charli was diagnosed with an aggressive osteosarcoma. There were no options available other than to manage her pain levels. We still thought we had time, however, we had to make a decision for her within 10 days of diagnosis.
Early Sunday morning, 17 August 2014, she was uncomfortable and, in true Charli style, still disguised her level of pain. Despite the strong medication, we made the decision to be one of dignity for her and pinned her wings on for her.
Thank you to Dr Marlies Bohm of the King Edward Veterinary Referral Clinic for seeing to Charli at 9.00am on Sunday morning 17 August 2014. She walked into the clinic a proud and fearless girl, tennis ball in mouth and flew over the bridge in true Charli style welcoming her new challenge and the start of her new life where we she will meet with those gone before her.
Your legacy lives on, Charli, and a legend you will always be. You have gone down in the history books of the Dobermann in South Africa and internationally. Your achievements in South Africa as the most successful Dobermann to date alone will be hard to beat. You featured as a Top Dog in South Africa from 2009 through 2014 amongst the best. Internationally, you stepped out amongst the best in Europe and came home each time victorious. Your achievements cannot be disputed or taken away from you. People dream about a dog like you, and I was blessed and honoured to have bred, owned, trained and handled you.
Farewell my friend and travel partner on so many trips locally and internationally; my show dog extraordinaire, working dog, mother, pet, etc etc. Your time on earth was way too short, you taught me and many others so much, met many friends and found many fans across the globe, you gave your all every time without fail and took every challenge like the professional athlete you always were.
May God bless Charli as He welcomes her home. We miss you and always will, Charli Choo .............Fly free, fly high and show them how its done in your new forever home till we meet again one day.
