ROYAL
CANIN SOUTH AFRICA PROACTIVELY RECALLS CERTAIN PRODUCTS
Johannesburg,
April 16, 2007
As
a follow up to previous communications, it appears from
tests carried out since Tuesday 10 April, both in South
Africa and overseas, that a batch of raw material received
by Royal Canin South Africa from a third party supplier
may have been contaminated. Tests are continuing in order
to determine the precise contaminant. The test results
are expected by the end of the week and will be communicated
upon receipt.
As
a further precautionary measure and despite that all products
have not been contaminated, we have decided to organize
a voluntary recall of ALL dog and cat dry food products
manufactured under the Vets Choice and Royal Canin brands
in South Africa by Royal Canin RSA during the period from
8th March 2007 to 11th April 2007. This voluntary recall
is in line with our commitment to putting the interests
and well-being of pets first.
This
recall does not include products manufactured in South
Africa before 8 March 2007 and products manufactured outside
South Africa. Pet owners are requested to check the date
of manufacture and country of origin on the packs of all
Royal Canin products in their possession and return recalled
product to the vet from which it was purchased.
We
are continuing to work closely with the South African
Veterinary Association and the relevant authorities to
resolve this matter as soon as possible.
Rest
assured that we remain committed to putting the interests
of pets and their health first.
