Throughout the year preceding, dogs and their owners fervently compete for a place in the Animaltalk Top 100 points ratings. In January, the Top 100 dogs are honoured at a sumptuous lunch with gifts galore and plenty of entertainment, including a hair-raising American Auction or two, the funds raised for the benefit of dog charities such as Barking Mad. This year's celebrity guest was Survivor Runner-up, Ashley Hayden, who threw herself whole-heartedly into the fund-raising excitement.
The Top Ten dogs were paraded along the red carpet to receive their generous prizes amidst enthusiastic support. Regrettably, the third-placed Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ch. Usakose Air of Success at Gondwana was recovering from surgery, so unable to attend. Instead, owner, Cheryl Jacobs, borrowed the 'other brown dog' - the Dobermann, Ch. Chaldonne Chekpointcharli, owned by Donne Lucas and Dieter Rencken - to collect her handshake and prizes.
